Everything else a garden needs
This is the broadest thing we do, and it covers two very different kinds of customer: the one who wants the garden kept right all year without thinking about it, and the one staring at something that has got completely away from them and wants it back to a blank slate. We do both.
Grass cutting and lawn care
Cutting on a regular round through the growing season — usually fortnightly from spring, weekly in the flush of growth, tailing off through autumn. Edges done every visit, because an edged lawn looks cut and an uncut edge makes the whole thing look neglected. Clippings taken away.
Strimming
For everything a mower cannot reach or handle: banks and slopes, around trees and posts, along fence lines, and rough grass that has gone well past lawn. On overgrown plots the strimmer is usually the first machine out.
Borders and beds
Cutting back, dead-heading, lifting and dividing where things have congested, and edging beds so they hold a defined line against the lawn. This is the work that makes the difference between a garden that is tidy and a garden that is actually looked after.
Weeding
Beds, gravel, block paving, drives and paths. Done by hand where it needs to be and by machine where that is quicker, and taken out at the root rather than snapped off at the surface so it does not all reappear in a fortnight.
Planting
Shrubs, hedging whips, bulbs, bedding and structural planting. If you know what you want, we will get it in properly — right depth, ground prepared, watered in. If you do not, we will tell you honestly what will cope with your soil, your light and, importantly, how much time you actually want to spend on it.
Turfing
New lawns from turf: ground cleared and levelled, prepared, turf laid tight with staggered joints and rolled in. The preparation is most of the job and it is the part that decides whether the lawn takes. Turf laid on unprepared ground is money down the drain.
Fencing
New fencing, replacement panels after a gale, posts concreted in, gravel boards, and gates that shut properly and keep shutting. Also repairs — not every fence needs replacing wholesale.
Garden clearances
The full reset. Overgrown plots, gardens that have not been touched in years, rental properties between tenants, and probate properties being got ready for sale. Everything cut down, dug out, and taken away, and you get the ground back to start again with.
Green waste removal
Everything we cut leaves with us — clippings, brash, turf, the lot. Nothing is bagged up and left at the side of the house for you to sort out later.
One-off or regular
One-off tidy-up. A single visit to get things back under control — before visitors, before a viewing, or just because it has got on top of you. No commitment to anything after it.
Regular round. We come on a set schedule through the season and the garden simply stays right. Most people find this cheaper over a year than two rescue jobs, because nothing ever becomes a big job.
Somewhere in between. Plenty of customers have us do a spring start-up and an autumn cut-back and handle the middle themselves. That is a perfectly sensible way to do it.
Landlords, agents and probate
We do a lot of between-tenancy and probate work. It usually needs to happen quickly, needs photographs afterwards, and needs an invoice that makes sense to whoever is paying. That is all straightforward — just say when you ring.
Japanese knotweed
If you have knotweed, do not let anyone strim it, dig it or take it away with the general green waste. It spreads from tiny fragments and it is controlled waste in law. It needs a specialist treatment plan. We will tell you if we spot it and point you in the right direction.
What a garden needs, and when
Nothing here is fixed — Lancashire weather does what it likes — but this is roughly how a year runs.
Spring
First cuts as growth starts. Beds cleared and edged, mulch on, winter damage sorted out. The busiest time for turfing and planting, while there is moisture in the ground.
Summer
Grass on a regular round, borders kept on top of, weeding before things seed. Hedge work continues with nest checks. Watering matters on anything planted this year.
Autumn
Leaves cleared off lawns and out of gutters and drains. Cutting back, dividing perennials, planting bulbs. Best window for hedge reduction and a lot of tree work as things go dormant.
Winter
Structural work: fencing, clearances, tree work with the leaves off, hard hedge reduction. Quieter for grass, which means quicker to get booked in.
How a garden visit runs
Walk round
On the first visit we walk it with you and agree what is in and what is not — particularly which plants stay. Plenty of "weeds" turn out to be something someone planted deliberately.
Big stuff first
Clearance and cutting back before detail work, so the fine tidying is not undone by everything that comes down afterwards.
Detail
Edging, weeding, borders and the finishing that makes it look deliberate rather than merely cut.
Clear and load
Waste loaded, hard surfaces blown off, gates shut and tools accounted for. On regular rounds we will let you know if something is starting to need attention.

Regular maintenance is priced per visit once we have seen the size of the plot and what is on it. Clearances and one-off jobs are priced as a whole job: how much is coming out, how it gets out, and how many loads of waste it makes.

Why we will not price it over the phone
A price given down the phone is a guess, and guesses get revised upwards on the day. Looking at the job takes us fifteen minutes and means the number we give you is the number you pay.
Our guarantee
If you are not happy with any part of the work, tell us before we leave — or ring within 14 days — and we will come back and put it right at no charge. That covers the work we carried out. It does not cover new growth, storm damage after we have left, or plants that fail to take. This is on top of your legal rights, not instead of them.
Prices on this website
You will not find a "from £X" figure anywhere on this site. Every garden is different, and a headline price that does not apply to your job is not much use to you. Ring or send the form and you will get a real one.
Questions about all aspects of garden work
Do you do regular grass cutting?
Yes, on a round through the growing season — typically fortnightly, moving to weekly when growth is at its strongest in late spring. Edges are done every visit and clippings go with us. There is no contract and no notice period; if you want to stop, tell us.
My garden is completely overgrown. Is it too far gone?
Almost certainly not. Gardens that have not been touched for years are a regular job for us, and they nearly always come back better than the owner expects. It is a clearance rather than a tidy-up, so it is priced as a whole job, and it usually takes a day or more rather than a couple of hours.
Do you take the waste away?
Yes. It is included in the price unless you tell us you want to keep the chip or the logs. Everything goes with us on the day.
Can you look after the garden while I am away?
Yes, that is common with holiday lets, second homes and people who work away. We do need access sorted and a way to reach you if something needs a decision. Photographs after each visit are no problem if you want them.
Will you tell me what to plant?
We will tell you what stands a real chance in your garden — based on the soil, how much sun it gets, how exposed it is and how much time you want to spend looking after it. We are gardeners rather than garden designers, so we will not draw you a planting plan, but you will get a straight answer about what will and will not cope.
Can you do fencing as well as the garden?
Yes. New fences, replacement panels after a gale, posts, gravel boards, gates. It is often worth doing at the same time as a clearance while the boundary is actually accessible.
Do you do gutters and roofs?
We will clear leaves out of gutters where we can reach them safely from a ladder as part of an autumn tidy-up. Anything needing roof access or scaffolding is a job for a roofer, and we will say so.
